TOWED VEHICLE CONNECTION DETERMINATION SYSTEM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18131957 titled 'TOWED VEHICLE CONNECTION DETERMINATION SYSTEM

Simplified Explanation

The towed vehicle connection determination system is designed to accurately determine whether a towed vehicle is connected or not. It uses multiple pieces of information, such as weight estimation, peripheral condition detection, and vehicle rear monitoring, to make this determination. This improves the accuracy compared to systems that rely on only one piece of information, such as weight estimation or camera images.

  • Towed vehicle connection determination system
  • Determines if a towed vehicle is connected
  • Uses multiple pieces of information for determination
  • Includes weight estimation equipment
  • Includes peripheral condition detection equipment
  • Includes vehicle rear monitoring equipment
  • Improves accuracy of determination compared to single information systems

Potential Applications

This technology can be applied in various industries and scenarios where accurate determination of towed vehicle connection is crucial. Some potential applications include:

  • Automotive industry: Ensuring proper connection of trailers or caravans to vehicles
  • Logistics and transportation: Verifying the connection of cargo trailers to trucks
  • Recreational vehicles: Confirming the attachment of towed campers or boats to vehicles
  • Construction and heavy machinery: Checking the connection of trailers or equipment to trucks or tractors

Problems Solved

The towed vehicle connection determination system addresses the following problems:

  • Inaccurate determination: Existing systems that rely on only one piece of information, such as weight estimation or camera images, may lead to incorrect determinations of whether a towed vehicle is connected or not.
  • Safety risks: Improperly connected towed vehicles can pose significant safety risks on the road, potentially causing accidents or damage to property.
  • Efficiency and productivity: Accurate determination of towed vehicle connection helps prevent delays and disruptions in various industries that rely on towing operations.

Benefits

The towed vehicle connection determination system offers several benefits:

  • Enhanced accuracy: By considering multiple pieces of information, the system improves the accuracy of determining whether a towed vehicle is connected or not.
  • Increased safety: Accurate determination helps prevent accidents and ensures the safe operation of vehicles towing trailers or other towed vehicles.
  • Time and cost savings: Avoiding incorrect determinations reduces the need for rechecks or repairs, saving time and costs associated with towing operations.
  • Improved efficiency: Reliable determination of towed vehicle connection allows for smoother logistics and transportation operations, minimizing delays and disruptions.

Original Abstract Submitted

The towed vehicle connection determination system includes a towed vehicle presence determination unit that determines whether or not the towed vehicle is connected, based on at least two or more pieces of information among the weight estimation equipment, the peripheral condition detection equipment, and the vehicle rear monitoring equipment. Therefore, it is possible to improve the accuracy of determining whether or not the towed vehicle is connected as compared with the case of determining whether or not the towed vehicle is connected based on only one piece of information such as the weight estimation value and the captured image of the camera.
