HYDROGEN STORAGE DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18119914 titled 'HYDROGEN STORAGE DEVICE

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a hydrogen storage device that includes a storage container with two different metal hydride materials for storing hydrogen at different pressures, aiming to enhance safety and reliability.

  • The storage container has an accommodation space where hydrogen is stored using two different metal hydride materials.
  • The first metal hydride material stores hydrogen at one pressure, while the second metal hydride material stores hydrogen at a different pressure to prevent excessive pressure rise.
  • The device aims to improve safety and reliability by controlling the pressure of the stored hydrogen.

Potential Applications

The technology could be applied in hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, stationary energy storage systems, and portable hydrogen storage devices.

Problems Solved

1. Excessive pressure rise in hydrogen storage containers. 2. Enhancing safety and reliability of hydrogen storage devices.

Benefits

1. Improved safety in hydrogen storage. 2. Enhanced reliability of hydrogen storage devices.

Potential Commercial Applications

"Hydrogen Storage Device with Dual Metal Hydride Materials: Commercial Applications"

Possible Prior Art

There are existing hydrogen storage technologies using metal hydride materials, but the specific approach of using two different materials to control pressure may be novel.

Unanswered Questions

The patent application does not provide details on how the device handles the transition between the two metal hydride materials storing hydrogen at different pressures.

What is the expected lifespan of the storage container and the metal hydride materials?

The patent application does not mention the expected lifespan of the storage container and the metal hydride materials used in the hydrogen storage device.

Original Abstract Submitted

A hydrogen storage device includes a storage container having an accommodation space in an interior thereof, a first metal hydride material provided in the interior of the storage container and that stores hydrogen, and a second metal hydride material provided in the interior of the storage container and that stores the hydrogen at a pressure that is different from that of the first metal hydride material. An advantageous effect of restraining an excessive rise of a pressure of the storage container and enhancing safety and reliability may be obtained.
