METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR SELECTION OF USER PLANE OR CONTROL PLANE FOR USER EQUIPMENT REMOTE PROVISIONING - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17986460 titled 'METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR SELECTION OF USER PLANE OR CONTROL PLANE FOR USER EQUIPMENT REMOTE PROVISIONING

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a method for managing access and mobility in a communication network, specifically in the context of a 5G or 6G system. The method involves the following steps:

  • Receiving a registration request message from a base station, which includes information requesting remote provisioning of a user equipment (UE).
  • Storing the registration request message.
  • Transmitting a registration message to a unified data management (UDM) system, based on the information in the registration request message.
  • Receiving a response message from the UDM system, which is related to the registration message.
  • Transmitting a registration acceptance message to the base station, indicating approval of the remote provisioning of the UE, based on the response message.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • 5G and 6G communication systems: The method described in the patent application can be applied in the development and implementation of advanced communication networks, specifically those that support higher data transmission rates.
  • Access and mobility management: The method provides a solution for efficiently managing access and mobility of user equipment in a communication network, ensuring seamless connectivity and provisioning of devices.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Higher data transmission rate: The method addresses the need for a communication system that can support higher data transmission rates, which is crucial for applications that require real-time data processing and high-speed connectivity.
  • Remote provisioning of user equipment: The method enables remote provisioning of user equipment, eliminating the need for physical interaction or manual configuration, thereby streamlining the deployment and management process.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved efficiency: The method simplifies the access and mobility management process, reducing the complexity and time required for provisioning user equipment in a communication network.
  • Enhanced connectivity: By supporting higher data transmission rates, the technology enables faster and more reliable connectivity, facilitating seamless communication and data transfer.
  • Scalability: The method can be applied in both 5G and 6G systems, providing a scalable solution that can adapt to future advancements in communication technology.

Original Abstract Submitted

The disclosure relates to a 5 generation (5G) or 6 generation (6G) communication system for supporting a higher data transmission rate. An operation method of an access and mobility management function (AMF) in a communication network is provided. The method includes receiving, from a base station, a registration request message including information requesting remote provisioning of a user equipment (UE), storing the registration request message, transmitting a registration message including the information requesting remote provisioning of the UE to a unified data management (UDM), based on the registration request message, receiving a response message relating to the registration message from the UDM, and transmitting, to the base station, a registration acceptance message indicating approval of the remote provisioning of the UE, based on the response message.
