METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR GENERATING INCREMENTAL APPROXIMATION BACKUPS OF LIMITED ACCESS CLOUD DATA - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17972357 titled 'METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR GENERATING INCREMENTAL APPROXIMATION BACKUPS OF LIMITED ACCESS CLOUD DATA

Simplified Explanation

The method described in the abstract is related to performing data protection services for limited access cloud data. The method involves identifying a protection policy event associated with an incremental backup of an object, obtaining previous object metadata, obtaining object data from on-premises cloud resources, generating slices of the object data, generating current checksums and current object metadata for each slice, and storing slices in a backup storage based on checksum comparisons.

  • Identification of protection policy events for incremental backups
  • Obtaining previous object metadata
  • Generating slices of object data
  • Comparing current and previous checksums for each slice
  • Storing slices in backup storage based on checksum comparisons

Potential Applications

This technology can be applied in cloud data protection services, backup solutions, and data security systems.

Problems Solved

This technology helps in ensuring data integrity, efficient backup processes, and secure storage of cloud data.

Benefits

The benefits of this technology include improved data protection, faster backup processes, and enhanced security for cloud data.

Potential Commercial Applications

Potential commercial applications of this technology include cloud service providers, data backup companies, and cybersecurity firms.

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art for this technology could be existing data protection methods for cloud storage systems.

Unanswered Questions

How does this method handle large volumes of data during backup processes?

The abstract does not provide details on how the method manages large amounts of data during backup.

What encryption methods are used to secure the stored backup data?

The abstract does not mention the specific encryption techniques employed to secure the backup data.

Original Abstract Submitted

Techniques described herein relate to a method for performing data protection services for limited access cloud data. The method includes identifying, by a cloud service provider (CSP) proxy, a protection policy event associated with an incremental approximation backup of an object; in response to identifying the protection policy event: obtaining previous object metadata associated with the object; obtaining object data from on-premises cloud resources associated with the object; generating slices of the object data; generating current checksums and current object metadata associated with each slice; selecting a first slice of the slices; making a first determination that a first current checksum of the current checksums and a first previous checksum associated with the first slice do not match; in response to the first determination: storing the first slice in a backup storage; and updating a first portion of the current object metadata associated with the first slice.
