METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PROVIDING SERVICE IN WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17972081 titled 'METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PROVIDING SERVICE IN WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a method performed by an access and mobility management function (AMF) in wireless communication. The method involves transmitting a request message to a policy control function (PCF) that includes network slice selection assistance information (NSSAI). The AMF receives a response message from the PCF that includes session management function (SMF) selection management information. If a first protocol data unit (PDU) session is requested from a terminal, the AMF establishes the session based on the SMF selection management information. If the NSSAI is changed, the AMF transmits a policy update request message to the PCF, including the updated NSSAI. The AMF then receives a policy update response message from the PCF, including updated SMF selection management information.

  • The method involves transmitting request and response messages between an access and mobility management function (AMF) and a policy control function (PCF).
  • The request message includes network slice selection assistance information (NSSAI), and the response message includes session management function (SMF) selection management information.
  • If a first protocol data unit (PDU) session is requested, the AMF establishes the session based on the SMF selection management information.
  • If the NSSAI is changed, the AMF transmits a policy update request message to the PCF, including the updated NSSAI.
  • The AMF receives a policy update response message from the PCF, including updated SMF selection management information.

Potential Applications

  • This method can be applied in wireless communication systems to manage network slice selection and session establishment.
  • It can be used in various wireless communication technologies such as 5G networks.

Problems Solved

  • The method solves the problem of efficiently managing network slice selection and session establishment in wireless communication systems.
  • It provides a streamlined process for updating network slice selection information.

Benefits

  • The method allows for efficient and effective management of network slice selection and session establishment.
  • It simplifies the process of updating network slice selection information.
  • It improves the overall performance and reliability of wireless communication systems.

Original Abstract Submitted

A method performed by an access and mobility management function (AMF) in a wireless communication is provided. The method includes transmitting, to a policy control function (PCF), a policy create request message including first allowed network slice selection assistance information (NSSAI), receiving, from the PCF, a policy create response message including first session management function (SMF) selection management information, in a case that an establishment of a first protocol data unit (PDU) session is requested from a terminal, establishing the first PDU session based on the first SMF selection management information, in a case that the first NSSAI is changed, transmitting, to the PCF, a policy update request message including second allowed NSSAI based on the policy control request trigger, and receiving, from the PCF, a policy update response message including second SMF selection management information.
