SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PREFORMING LIVE MIGRATION FROM A SOURCE HOST TO A TARGET HOST - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17960403 titled 'SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PREFORMING LIVE MIGRATION FROM A SOURCE HOST TO A TARGET HOST
Simplified Explanation
The patent application describes systems and methods for live migration from a source host to a target host. A processor determines workload data for active workloads using the source host and available live migration candidate hosts, selects the target host based on workload requirements and configuration data, and executes a migration routine to move the active workloads.
- The system involves a processor that analyzes workload data and configuration information to select a target host for live migration.
- The migration routine is executed to transfer active workloads from the source host to the target host efficiently and effectively.
Potential Applications
The technology could be applied in cloud computing environments, data centers, and virtualized systems to optimize resource allocation and workload management.
Problems Solved
1. Efficiently moving active workloads from one host to another without disrupting operations. 2. Optimizing resource allocation and workload distribution in dynamic computing environments.
Benefits
1. Improved system performance and resource utilization. 2. Seamless migration of workloads without downtime. 3. Enhanced flexibility and scalability in managing computing resources.
Potential Commercial Applications
Optimizing cloud computing services, improving data center efficiency, and enhancing virtualization solutions in various industries.
Possible Prior Art
There are existing technologies for live migration in virtualized environments, but this patent application may introduce novel methods for selecting target hosts based on workload requirements and configuration data.
Unanswered Questions
How does this technology handle security concerns during live migration?
The patent application does not specifically address security measures or protocols for ensuring data integrity and confidentiality during the live migration process.
What impact does this technology have on energy consumption in data centers?
The application does not mention any potential energy-saving benefits or considerations related to the live migration process.
Original Abstract Submitted
Disclosed herein are systems and methods for performing live migration from a source host to a target host. In one example, a processor of the system is configured to determine workload data for active workloads utilizing the source host and available live migration candidate hosts and select the target host from the live migration candidate hosts based on the workload requirement information and configuration data of the live migration candidate hosts. Once selected, the system will determine and execute a migration routine for migrating the active workloads from the source host to the target host.
