DRX CONTROL METHOD AND APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17959511 titled 'DRX CONTROL METHOD AND APPARATUS

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a method and apparatus for controlling the active times of different Discontinuous Reception (DRX) configurations in a terminal device. This is achieved by sending indication information from a network device to the terminal device, allowing for flexible control over the DRX active time of different serving cells.

  • The method allows for the configuration of multiple DRXs in a terminal device.
  • The network device can send indication information to the terminal device to control the active time of a specific serving cell.
  • The indication information is based on the DRX configuration of the first serving cell.
  • This method provides flexibility in controlling the DRX active times of different serving cells in a terminal device.

Potential Applications

  • Mobile communication networks
  • Internet of Things (IoT) devices
  • Wireless sensor networks

Problems Solved

  • Lack of flexibility in controlling DRX active times in a terminal device with multiple serving cells.
  • Inefficient power consumption due to fixed DRX configurations.
  • Difficulty in optimizing network performance based on specific serving cell requirements.

Benefits

  • Improved power efficiency in terminal devices.
  • Enhanced network performance through optimized DRX configurations.
  • Flexibility in adapting to different serving cell requirements.

Original Abstract Submitted

A DRX control method and apparatus may flexibly control active times of different DRXs when a plurality of DRXs is configured for a terminal device. For example, a network device may send indication information to the terminal device in a first serving cell of the terminal device, to configure the terminal device to start, prolong, or end DRX active time of a second serving cell of the terminal device. The first serving cell is configured with a first DRX, and the second serving cell is configured with a second DRX. The network device sends indication information based on the first DRX.
