TARGETED UPDATES OF STORAGE MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE BASED ON CLASS FILE USAGE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17956027 titled 'TARGETED UPDATES OF STORAGE MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE BASED ON CLASS FILE USAGE

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a patent application for a system that generates customized updates for storage management software running on different storage systems. The system stores filenames of class files used by each instance of the software in databases associated with those instances, creates baseline thread dumps to track class files, and updates the baseline by comparing class files used in response to UI actions and REST API calls.

  • Simplified Explanation:

- Customized updates are generated for storage management software instances based on class files used and stored in databases. - Baseline thread dumps are created and updated to track changes in class files. - General updates are compared with stored filenames to create customized updates for each instance.

Potential Applications

This technology could be applied in various industries such as IT, cloud computing, data storage, and software development.

Problems Solved

- Ensures that storage management software instances are updated with the necessary class files. - Streamlines the update process by customizing updates for each instance based on stored data.

Benefits

- Increases efficiency by providing customized updates for specific software instances. - Reduces the risk of errors by omitting non-matching class files from updates.

Potential Commercial Applications

Optimizing Storage Management Software Updates for Enhanced Performance

Possible Prior Art

There may be prior art related to software update systems or storage management solutions that track and update class files in a similar manner.

Unanswered Questions

How does this system handle conflicts between different versions of class files during updates?

The system may have a mechanism to resolve conflicts between different versions of class files, such as prioritizing the most recent version or providing options for manual selection.

What security measures are in place to protect the databases storing filenames of class files?

The system may implement encryption, access controls, and regular security audits to protect the databases storing sensitive information about class files used by storage management software instances.

Original Abstract Submitted

Customized updates are generated for instances of storage management software running on storage management servers in different storage systems. The filenames of class files used by each instance of the storage management software are stored in respective databases associated with those storage management software instances. Thread dumps are created and searched for class files of the storage management software to create a baseline. The baseline is updated by comparing class files used in response to UI actions and REST API calls and storing names of class files that are not already in the database. To update an instance of the storage management software, the class files of a general update are compared with the filenames in the database associated with the instance and non-matching files are omitted from the customized update foe that instance.
