SELF-HEALING DATA PROTECTION SYSTEM MATCHING SYSTEM ATTRIBUTES TO RELEVANT SCRIPTS USING WEIGHTED ATTRIBUTES - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17955802 titled 'SELF-HEALING DATA PROTECTION SYSTEM MATCHING SYSTEM ATTRIBUTES TO RELEVANT SCRIPTS USING WEIGHTED ATTRIBUTES

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a method for automating the remediation of issues by matching failed operations to a script that can fix the problem without causing additional side effects. The method involves detecting a backup operation alert message that encodes attributes affected by the backup operation. These attributes are weighted to reflect the importance of the corresponding script in fixing the problem. The script library is scanned to identify scripts that match the alert message, and a score is generated for each script based on the relevance to the backup operation. The script with the highest score is executed as it is most likely to fix the issue causing the alert message.

  • The method automates the timely remediation of issues by matching failed operations to appropriate scripts.
  • The scripts are configured to fix the problem without causing additional side effects.
  • The attributes affected by the backup operation are encoded in an alert message.
  • The attributes are weighted to reflect the importance of the corresponding script in fixing the problem.
  • The script library is scanned to identify scripts that match the alert message.
  • A score is generated for each script based on the relevance to the backup operation.
  • The script with the highest score is executed as it is most likely to fix the issue causing the alert message.

Potential Applications:

  • IT system management and maintenance
  • Data backup and recovery systems
  • Cloud computing platforms

Problems Solved:

  • Timely remediation of issues
  • Minimizing unavailability of services and loss of data
  • Efficient matching of failed operations to appropriate scripts

Benefits:

  • Automation of issue remediation
  • Minimizing downtime and data loss
  • Improved efficiency in fixing problems
  • Reduction in manual intervention and human error

Original Abstract Submitted

Embodiments automate the timely remediation of issues by matching failed operations to a script that is configured to fix the problem or problems without causing additional side effects, thus minimizing unavailability of services and loss of data. A method detects a backup operation alert message sent from a data manager or storage system that encodes one or more attributes affected by the backup operation, wherein the attributes are weighted to reflect a percentage importance of the a corresponding script to fix the problem. A script library is scanned to identify scripts that match the alert message. A component generates a score for each script, where the score factors the relevance of the script to the backup operation based on the weighted attributes, and executes the script with the highest score, as the script most likely to fix the issue causing the alert message.
