VIRTUAL TRAFFIC LIGHT VIA C-V2X - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17948472 titled 'VIRTUAL TRAFFIC LIGHT VIA C-V2X

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes techniques for providing traffic intersection control information to vehicles via V2X communication links.

  • Receiving vehicle information associated with proximate vehicles
  • Generating vehicle groups based on the vehicle information
  • Generating a traffic control plan based on the vehicle groups
  • Transmitting traffic intersection control messages to proximate vehicles based on the traffic control plan
    • Potential Applications:**

- Traffic management systems - Autonomous vehicles - Smart city infrastructure

    • Problems Solved:**

- Improving traffic flow at intersections - Enhancing communication between vehicles and infrastructure - Increasing safety and efficiency on the roads

    • Benefits:**

- Reduced congestion - Enhanced safety for drivers and pedestrians - Improved overall traffic flow

    • Potential Commercial Applications:**

- Traffic control companies - Automotive manufacturers - Smart city developers

    • Possible Prior Art:**

One potential prior art could be the use of traffic light synchronization systems to improve traffic flow at intersections. Another could be the development of vehicle-to-vehicle communication systems for sharing information between cars on the road.

    • Unanswered Questions:**
    • How does the system prioritize which vehicles receive the traffic intersection control messages first?**

The patent application does not provide specific details on how the system determines the priority of vehicles to receive the control messages. This could be an important aspect to consider for efficient traffic management.

    • What measures are in place to ensure the security and privacy of the vehicle information being shared over the V2X communication links?**

The patent application does not address the security and privacy concerns related to sharing vehicle information over the communication links. Implementing robust security measures to protect the data could be crucial for the successful deployment of this technology.

Original Abstract Submitted

Techniques are provided for traffic intersection control information to vehicles via V2X communication links. An example method for providing traffic intersection control messages includes receiving vehicle information associated with a plurality of proximate vehicles, generating one or more vehicle groups based on the vehicle information, generating a traffic control plan based at least in part on the one or more vehicle groups, and transmitting one or more traffic intersection control messages to one or more of the plurality of proximate vehicles based at least in part on the traffic control plan.
