POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT WITH REDUCED LEAKAGE CURRENT - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17922176 titled 'POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT WITH REDUCED LEAKAGE CURRENT

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes apparatuses and methods for reducing leakage current in electronic circuits.

  • The invention includes a switch circuit that powers a circuit block.
  • A delay circuit is used to delay the enabling of the switch circuit and can be powered down.
  • A bypass circuit is provided to disable the switch circuit by bypassing the delay circuit.

Potential Applications

  • This technology can be applied in various electronic devices and systems that require efficient power management.
  • It can be used in mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, to minimize power consumption and extend battery life.
  • It can be implemented in computer systems, servers, and data centers to reduce energy consumption and improve overall efficiency.

Problems Solved

  • Leakage current is a common issue in electronic circuits, leading to unnecessary power consumption and reduced efficiency.
  • This technology addresses the problem of leakage current by providing a mechanism to disable the power supply to circuit blocks when not in use.
  • By reducing leakage current, the invention helps to conserve energy and improve the overall performance of electronic devices.

Benefits

  • The apparatuses and methods described in the patent application effectively reduce leakage current, resulting in improved power efficiency.
  • By powering down circuit blocks when not in use, the technology helps to conserve energy and extend battery life in portable devices.
  • The bypass circuit allows for quick and efficient disabling of the power supply, further enhancing power management capabilities.

Original Abstract Submitted

Apparatuses and methods to reduce leakage current are presented. The includes a switch circuit configured to power a circuit block; a delay circuit configured to delay enabling the switch circuit powering the circuit block and to be powered down; and a bypass circuit configured to bypass the delay circuit to disable the switch circuit powering the circuit block. The method includes powering, by switch, a circuit block; powering down a delay circuit; and bypassing, by a bypass circuit, the delay circuit to disable the switch circuit powering the circuit block.
