Cellular Network Which Selectively Configures a Measurement Gap Based on Subcarrier Spacing - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17916918 titled 'Cellular Network Which Selectively Configures a Measurement Gap Based on Subcarrier Spacing

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a system that determines and reports the time gap requirement for a user equipment (UE) to perform measurements on a reference signal provided by a target base station. Here are the bullet points explaining the patent/innovation:

  • The system involves a UE receiving a radio resource control (RRC) message from a current base station to modify its current RRC connection.
  • The RRC configuration message includes information about the sub carrier spacing (SCS) of one or more target frequency bands of at least one target base station.
  • Based on the received SCS information, the UE determines gap information, which indicates whether a gap is needed to perform measurements on the reference signal transmitted at each of the target frequency bands.
  • The UE then transmits the gap information to the current base station.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • This technology can be applied in cellular networks where UEs need to perform measurements on reference signals from different base stations.
  • It can be used to optimize network performance by providing accurate gap information to UEs, ensuring efficient measurement procedures.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • The system solves the problem of determining the time gap requirement for UEs to perform measurements on reference signals from target base stations.
  • It eliminates the need for UEs to manually calculate or estimate the required gaps, ensuring accurate and efficient measurement procedures.

Benefits of this technology:

  • The system automates the process of determining the time gap requirement for UEs, reducing the burden on users and improving overall network efficiency.
  • By providing accurate gap information, it enables UEs to perform measurements on reference signals without interference, leading to more reliable network performance.

Original Abstract Submitted

A system for determining and reporting user equipment (UE) time gap requirement information for performing a measurement on a reference signal provided by a target base station. A UE receives a radio resource control (RRC) message from a current base station to modify a current RRC connection. The RRC configuration message may comprise sub carrier spacing (SCS) information of one or more target frequency bands of at least one target base station. The UE may then determine gap information based at least in part on the received SCS information of the one or more target frequency bands. The gap information may indicate whether a gap is needed in performing measurements on a reference signal transmitted at each of the one or more target frequency bands. The UE then transmits the gap information to the current base station.
