SESSION MANAGEMENT METHOD ACCORDING TO APPLICATION OF USER EQUIPMENT POLICY IN WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17912993 titled 'SESSION MANAGEMENT METHOD ACCORDING TO APPLICATION OF USER EQUIPMENT POLICY IN WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

Simplified Explanation

According to this patent application, a policy control function (PCF) entity is provided for managing policies. The PCF entity can transmit URSP (User Radio Slice Profile) information to a user equipment via an Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF). The URSP information includes first data network name (DNN) information. The PCF entity can identify a triggering event for updating the URSP and then transmit updated URSP information to the user equipment via the AMF. The updated URSP information includes second DNN information. When transmitting the updated URSP information, the PCF entity also sends a Session Management Function (SMF) selection management trigger message to the AMF. The PCF entity can receive a user equipment policy update request message from the AMF when a request for the first DNN or a third DNN is detected.

  • The patent application describes a PCF entity that manages policies for user equipment.
  • The PCF entity can transmit URSP information to user equipment via an AMF.
  • The URSP information includes DNN information.
  • The PCF entity can update the URSP information based on a triggering event and transmit the updated information to the user equipment.
  • The PCF entity also sends a SMF selection management trigger message to the AMF when transmitting the updated URSP information.
  • The PCF entity can receive a policy update request message from the AMF when a request for specific DNNs is detected.

Potential Applications

  • This technology can be applied in 5G networks to efficiently manage policies for user equipment.
  • It can be used to update URSP information and provide updated DNN information to user equipment.
  • The technology enables seamless policy updates and management in a network environment.

Problems Solved

  • The technology solves the problem of efficiently managing policies for user equipment in a network.
  • It addresses the need for updating URSP information and providing updated DNN information to user equipment.
  • The technology enables effective communication between the PCF entity, AMF, and user equipment for policy management.

Benefits

  • The technology simplifies policy management by providing a PCF entity dedicated to managing policies.
  • It allows for efficient transmission of URSP information and updated DNN information to user equipment.
  • The technology enables timely policy updates and ensures seamless communication between network entities.

Original Abstract Submitted

According to an embodiment of the present disclosure, a policy control function (PCF) entity for managing policies may be provided. The PCF entity may transmit, to a user equipment via an Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF), URSP information including first data network name (DNN) information, identify a triggering event for updating the URSP, transmit, to the user equipment via the AMF based on the identified triggering event, updated URSP information including second DNN information, transmit, when transmitting the updated URSP information including the second DNN information, a Session Management Function (SMF) selection management trigger message to the AMF, and receive a user equipment policy update request message from the AMF when a request from the AMF for at least one of a first DNN corresponding to the first DNN information or a third DNN is detected.
