METHOD AND USER EQUIPMENT FOR POWER SAVING THROUGH OPTIMIZED EARLY MEASUREMENT IN CELLULAR NETWORK - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17871421 titled 'METHOD AND USER EQUIPMENT FOR POWER SAVING THROUGH OPTIMIZED EARLY MEASUREMENT IN CELLULAR NETWORK

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a method and user equipment (UE) for power saving in a cellular network by optimizing the early measurement of frequencies for secondary cell setup. Here are the key points:

  • The UE establishes a service with a base station associated with a primary cell that supports early measurement of frequencies for setting up a secondary cell (SCell).
  • The UE determines if the service belongs to either the first service set or the second service set.
  • If the service belongs to the first service set, the early measurement of SCell frequencies and transmission of an early measurement report to the base station are temporarily terminated.
  • If the service belongs to the second service set, the UE performs the early measurement of SCell frequencies and transmits the early measurement report to the base station.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Power saving in cellular networks
  • Optimization of frequency measurement for secondary cell setup
  • Enhanced user equipment functionality

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Reduces power consumption by temporarily terminating early measurement and transmission when not needed
  • Improves efficiency by optimizing the frequency measurement process
  • Enhances user equipment capabilities by providing early measurement reports to the base station

Benefits of this technology:

  • Extended battery life for user equipment
  • Reduced energy consumption in cellular networks
  • Improved network efficiency and performance
  • Enhanced user experience with optimized frequency measurement

Original Abstract Submitted

A method, and a user equipment (UE) for power saving through optimized early measurement of frequencies for secondary cell setup in cellular network are provided. The UE initiates a service with a base station associated with a primary cell supporting the early measurement of the frequencies for the secondary cell (SCell) setup. The UE determines whether the service belongs to one of a first service set, and a second service set. The early measurement of the frequencies for the S Cell setup is temporarily terminated, and/or the transmission of an early measurement report comprising the one or more frequencies for the SCell setup to the base station is temporarily terminated. Alternatively, the UE performs the early measurement of the frequencies for the SCell setup and transmits the early measurement report to the base station when the service belongs to the second service set.
