CAMERA MODULE AND ELECTRONIC DEVICE INCLUDING THE SAME - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17869073 titled 'CAMERA MODULE AND ELECTRONIC DEVICE INCLUDING THE SAME

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a camera module that includes a camera housing, a first carrier, a second carrier, and a damping structure. The first carrier is partially located inside the camera housing and can move in the direction of the optical axis. The second carrier is located inside the first carrier and includes a lens assembly. It moves together with the first carrier during auto focus and can move relative to the first carrier in a direction perpendicular to the optical axis during image stabilization. The damping structure provides damping to the movement of the second carrier during image stabilization.

  • The camera module includes a first carrier that moves in the direction of the optical axis and a second carrier that moves with the first carrier during auto focus.
  • The second carrier can also move relative to the first carrier in a direction perpendicular to the optical axis during image stabilization.
  • The damping structure provides damping to the movement of the second carrier during image stabilization.
  • The damping structure includes a stopper on the upper surface of the first carrier, a damping material on the first surface of the second carrier, and a protrusion that connects the stopper to the damping material.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Camera modules in smartphones, tablets, and other portable devices.
  • Digital cameras and camcorders.
  • Surveillance cameras and security systems.
  • Automotive cameras for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous vehicles.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Unwanted movement and vibrations of the lens assembly during image stabilization.
  • Ensuring stable and clear images even when the camera is subjected to external forces or movements.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved image stabilization performance.
  • Enhanced image quality and sharpness.
  • Reduction of blurring and distortion caused by camera movements.
  • Compact and efficient design for camera modules.

Original Abstract Submitted

Disclosed is a camera module. The camera module includes: a camera housing, a first carrier that is at least partially disposed in the camera housing and configured to move in a direction of an optical axis, a second carrier at least partially disposed in the first carrier and including a lens assembly, the second carrier configured to move together with the first carrier in the direction of the optical axis based on an auto focus function being performed and to move relative to the first carrier in at least one direction perpendicular to the optical axis based on an image stabilization function being performed, and a damping structure configured to provide damping to the movement of the second carrier based on the image stabilization function being performed. The damping structure includes a stopper disposed on an upper surface of the first carrier, a damping material located on a first surface of the second carrier at least partially facing the upper surface, and a protrusion extending from the stopper to be at least partially coupled to the damping material.
