MAP COORDINATION OF NSTR CONSTRAINED LINKS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17813007 titled 'MAP COORDINATION OF NSTR CONSTRAINED LINKS

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes methods and apparatuses for coordinating multiple access points (APs) in a wireless local area network to reduce interference caused by a non-simultaneous transmit/receive (NSTR) link pair of a multilink device (MLD) in an overlapping basic service set (OBSS).

  • The methods involve an AP MLD obtaining a MAP coordination request from a neighboring AP in a different basic service set (BSS) through a backhaul link.
  • The MAP coordination request includes schedule information for a victim station (STA) in the different BSS.
  • Based on the MAP coordination request and the schedule information, the operation mode of either the AP MLD or a non-AP MLD forming the NSTR link pair is modified.
  • The modification ensures that the first link of the NSTR link pair is silenced during the active period of the victim STA.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Wireless local area networks (WLANs) in crowded environments such as office buildings, shopping malls, or stadiums.
  • Networks where multiple APs are deployed to provide seamless coverage and capacity.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Interference caused by NSTR link pairs in overlapping basic service sets can degrade the performance of WLANs.
  • Coordinating the operation of APs and NSTR link pairs can help mitigate interference and improve overall network performance.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Reduces interference in overlapping basic service sets, leading to improved network performance and user experience.
  • Enables efficient coordination between APs and NSTR link pairs, optimizing the use of available wireless resources.
  • Enhances the reliability and stability of WLANs in crowded environments.

Original Abstract Submitted

Methods and apparatuses for facilitating multi-AP (MAP) coordination to mitigate interference caused by a link of a non-simultaneous transmit/receive (NSTR) link pair of a multilink device (MLD) in an overlapping basic service set (OBSS) in a wireless local area network. The methods include a method performed by an access point (AP) MLD, comprising the steps of obtaining, via a backhaul link from a neighboring AP in a different BSS, a MAP coordination request that includes schedule information for a victim station (STA) in the different BSS, and modifying, based on the MAP coordination request and the schedule information, an operation mode of either the AP MLD or a non-AP MLD that forms an NSTR link pair with the AP MLD, such that a first link of the NSTR link pair is silenced during an active period of the victim STA.
