SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR CHARGING BATTERY OF VEHICLE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17697218 titled 'SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR CHARGING BATTERY OF VEHICLE

Simplified Explanation

The present disclosure describes a charging system and method for charging a vehicle's main battery using a swappable battery and a DC-DC converter. This eliminates the need for additional converters for multiple swappable batteries, increasing the efficiency of the motor and inverters and extending the vehicle's driving distance.

  • The charging system allows the main battery of a vehicle to be charged using a swappable battery.
  • A DC-DC converter in the vehicle's on-board computer (OBC) is used to charge the main battery with the voltage from the swappable battery.
  • Multiple swappable batteries can be connected to the input terminals of the OBC's DC-DC converters, eliminating the need for additional converters.
  • This charging method increases the driving distance of the vehicle and improves the efficiency of the motor and inverters.

Potential Applications

  • Electric vehicles: This charging system can be applied to electric vehicles to increase their driving range and improve overall efficiency.
  • Hybrid vehicles: The system can also be used in hybrid vehicles to enhance their electric driving capabilities and reduce reliance on internal combustion engines.

Problems Solved

  • Simplified charging: The system eliminates the need for multiple converters for swappable batteries, making the charging process more streamlined and efficient.
  • Increased driving distance: By utilizing swappable batteries, the system extends the vehicle's driving range, addressing the limited range issue often associated with electric vehicles.
  • Improved efficiency: The use of a DC-DC converter in the OBC enhances the efficiency of the motor and inverters, resulting in better overall performance.

Benefits

  • Extended driving range: The ability to charge the main battery with swappable batteries allows for longer trips without the need for frequent recharging.
  • Cost-effective solution: By eliminating the need for additional converters, the system reduces the cost and complexity of the charging infrastructure.
  • Enhanced efficiency: The improved efficiency of the motor and inverters leads to better energy utilization and increased overall performance of the vehicle.

Original Abstract Submitted

The present disclosure relates to a charging system and a charging method for charging a main battery of a vehicle. The main battery can be charged with a voltage of a swappable battery using a DC-DC converter of an on-board computer (OBC) without installing additional converters for a plurality of swappable batteries through connection of the plurality of swappable batteries to input terminals of a plurality of DC-DC converters of the OBC charging the main battery, so that a driving distance of the vehicle is increased, and the efficiency of a motor and the inverters is increased.
