TRANSMISSION PUNCTURING SCHEMES FOR RATELESS CODING - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17529223 titled 'TRANSMISSION PUNCTURING SCHEMES FOR RATELESS CODING

Simplified Explanation

This patent application describes a system for signaling transmission puncturing schemes in rateless coding. Rateless coding is a technique used to encode messages by dividing them into smaller portions and transmitting them in a cumulative manner. Transmission puncturing is a process that adjusts the bit rate of signal transmissions.

  • The transmitting device encodes a message using a rateless code and performs transmission puncturing to adapt the bit rate of signal transmissions.
  • The transmitting device signals the transmission puncturing scheme and any modifications to it to the receiving device through control signaling.
  • The transmission puncturing scheme can be modified to prioritize retransmissions for certain portions of the message over others.
  • Prioritized portions of the message are given earlier transmission occasions in the transmission puncturing scheme.

Potential Applications

  • Wireless communication systems
  • Data transmission in networks
  • Error correction in data transmission

Problems Solved

  • Efficient transmission of messages using rateless coding
  • Adaptation of bit rate in signal transmissions
  • Prioritization of retransmissions for different portions of a message

Benefits

  • Improved reliability and efficiency in data transmission
  • Flexibility in adjusting the bit rate of signal transmissions
  • Prioritization of critical portions of a message for retransmission

Original Abstract Submitted

This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for signaling mechanisms associated with transmission puncturing schemes for rateless coding. In some aspects, a transmitting device may encode a message using a rateless code associated with a cumulative encoding of various portions of the message and may perform transmission puncturing to adapt a bit rate of related signal transmissions. The transmitting device may signal an indication of the transmission puncturing scheme, and potentially one or more modifications to the transmission puncturing scheme, to a receiving device via control signaling. The transmitting device may modify the transmission puncturing scheme in accordance with prioritizing retransmissions for some cumulative portions of the message ahead of other cumulative portions, such as by granting prioritized cumulative portions of the message relatively earlier transmission occasions in the transmission puncturing scheme.
