BUILDING CONTROLLER WITH WIRING TERMINALS PROGRAMMABLE BETWEEN AN INPUT WIRING TERMINAL TYPE, AN OUTPUT WIRING TERMINAL TYPE, AND A COMMUNICATION WIRING TERMINAL TYPE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17948567 titled 'BUILDING CONTROLLER WITH WIRING TERMINALS PROGRAMMABLE BETWEEN AN INPUT WIRING TERMINAL TYPE, AN OUTPUT WIRING TERMINAL TYPE, AND A COMMUNICATION WIRING TERMINAL TYPE

Simplified Explanation

The abstract of the patent application describes a building controller that allows for field programmability of wiring terminals to different types, including input, output, and communication terminals.

  • The building controller includes a housing and multiple wiring terminals secured within the housing.
  • The wiring terminals are accessible from outside the housing and can be set to different terminal types by the controller.
  • The controller is field programmable, allowing for flexibility in configuring the wiring terminals to suit different communication protocols.

Potential Applications

This technology could be applied in various building automation systems, such as HVAC controls, lighting systems, and security systems.

Problems Solved

This technology solves the problem of inflexible wiring configurations in building controllers, allowing for easy adaptation to different communication protocols and system requirements.

Benefits

The benefits of this technology include increased flexibility, ease of installation, and compatibility with a wide range of building automation systems.

Potential Commercial Applications

Potential commercial applications of this technology include smart buildings, industrial automation, and energy management systems.

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art could be traditional building controllers with fixed wiring configurations, which lack the flexibility and programmability of the described technology.

Unanswered Questions

The article does not mention any limitations or restrictions on the communication protocols that can be used with the communication wiring terminal type.

Original Abstract Submitted

A building controller includes a housing and a plurality of wiring terminals that are secured relative to the housing and are physically accessible from outside of the housing. A controller is housed by the housing and is operatively coupled to the plurality of wiring terminals. The controller is field programmable to set each of two or more of the plurality of wiring terminals to a particular one of a plurality of wiring terminal types including an input wiring terminal type, an output wiring terminal type, and a communication wiring terminal type where the communication wiring terminal type operates in accordance with a predetermined communication protocol.
