AUGMENTING ROADWAY MARKINGS AND TRAFFIC SIGNS FOR OCCUPANT AWARENESS - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17932356 titled 'AUGMENTING ROADWAY MARKINGS AND TRAFFIC SIGNS FOR OCCUPANT AWARENESS
Simplified Explanation
The system described in the patent application is designed to provide information to a vehicle occupant based on the surrounding environment. Here is a simplified explanation of the abstract:
- Vehicle system for providing information to occupant
- Includes vehicle sensor, display, and controller
- Controller identifies driving rules from sensor data
- Determines applicability state of driving rules
- Displays graphics based on applicable driving rules
---
- Potential Applications
This technology could be applied in various industries such as automotive, transportation, and smart city infrastructure.
- Problems Solved
This system helps improve driver awareness and safety by providing real-time information about driving rules in the surrounding environment.
- Benefits
- Enhanced driver safety - Improved decision-making for vehicle occupants - Increased awareness of driving rules
- Potential Commercial Applications
"Enhancing Driver Safety with Environment-Aware Information System"
- Possible Prior Art
One possible prior art could be the use of vehicle sensors for providing information to drivers, but the specific application of identifying driving rules and displaying graphics based on their applicability state may be a novel aspect of this technology.

- Unanswered Questions
- How does the system handle complex driving scenarios?
The patent application does not provide details on how the system handles complex driving scenarios where multiple driving rules may apply simultaneously.
- What is the accuracy of the driving rule identification process?
The accuracy of identifying driving rules from sensor data and determining their applicability state is not discussed in the abstract.
Original Abstract Submitted
A system for providing information to an occupant of a vehicle includes at least one vehicle sensor for determining information about an environment surrounding the vehicle, a display for providing information to the occupant, and a controller in electrical communication with the at least one vehicle sensor and the display. The controller is programmed to identify at least one driving rule associated with at least one portion of the environment surrounding the vehicle using the at least one vehicle sensor, determine an applicability state of the at least one driving rule, where the applicability state includes an applicable state and a non-applicable state, and display a graphic using the display in response to determining that the applicability state of the at least one driving rule is the applicable state.
