IMPROVED LIGHT EMITTING DEVICES - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 20240057366 titled 'IMPROVED LIGHT EMITTING DEVICES

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a device with a stacked blue light emitting structure, including multiple layers of emissive and charge generation materials between two electrodes.

  • The device includes a first electrode, a second electrode, a first emissive unit with a first emissive layer, a second emissive unit with a second emissive layer, and a first charge generation layer.
  • The first emissive unit emits blue light with a peak wavelength in the visible spectrum between 380 nm to 500 nm, with specific chromaticity coordinates.
  • The second emissive unit emits blue light with a different peak wavelength and chromaticity coordinates.
  • Both emissive layers contain organic, quantum dot, and/or perovskite light emitting materials.

Potential Applications:

  • Display technology for high-quality blue light emission in electronic devices.
  • Lighting applications for energy-efficient and color-accurate blue light sources.

Problems Solved:

  • Providing a device with stacked blue light emitting layers for improved color quality and efficiency.
  • Addressing the need for blue light sources with different peak wavelengths and chromaticities.

Benefits:

  • Enhanced color accuracy and brightness in blue light emission.
  • Energy-efficient and long-lasting light emitting device.
  • Versatile applications in displays and lighting technology.

Original Abstract Submitted

a device is provided. the device comprises a stacked blue light emitting device comprising: a first electrode; a second electrode; a first emissive unit comprising a first emissive layer; a second emissive unit comprising a second emissive layer; and a first charge generation layer; wherein the first emissive unit, the second emissive unit and the first charge generation layer are all disposed between the first electrode and the second electrode; the first emissive unit is disposed over the first electrode; the first charge generation layer is disposed over the first emissive unit; the second emissive unit is disposed over the first charge generation layer; the second electrode is disposed over the second emissive unit; the first emissive unit emits blue light having a peak wavelength in the visible spectrum in the range of 380 nm to 500 nm that is defined as the first peak wavelength; the first emissive unit emits blue light having first cie 1931 (x, y) colour space chromaticity coordinates of (x1, y1); the second emissive unit emits blue light having a peak wavelength in the visible spectrum in the range of 380 nm to 500 nm that is defined as the second peak wavelength; the second emissive unit emits blue light having a second chromaticity having second cie 1931 (x, y) colour space chromaticity coordinates of (x2, y2); the second chromaticity is substantially different to the first chromaticity; and the first emissive layer and the second emissive layer comprise organic light emitting material, quantum dot light emitting material and/or perovskite light emitting material.
