PIXEL CIRCUIT AND DISPLAY DEVICE HAVING THE SAME - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17968571 titled 'PIXEL CIRCUIT AND DISPLAY DEVICE HAVING THE SAME

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a pixel circuit that includes various transistors and a storage capacitor to control the emission of light from a light emitting element. The circuit uses different signals to drive the transistor and apply voltage to the light emitting element for initialization and data write operations. The off-duty ratios of these signals are determined based on the desired luminance level.

  • The pixel circuit includes a light emitting element, driving transistor, and various other transistors and a storage capacitor.
  • A first emission signal is used to apply a power voltage to the driving transistor, while a second emission signal is used to apply the driving current to the light emitting element.
  • A first initialization transistor applies a voltage to the anode electrode of the light emitting element during the second emission signal.
  • A data write transistor and compensation transistor are also included in the circuit.
  • The first off-duty ratio, which determines the high voltage level period of the first emission signal, is determined based on the desired luminance level.
  • The second off-duty ratio, which determines the high voltage level period of the second emission signal, is fixed.

Potential Applications

  • This pixel circuit can be used in various display technologies, such as OLED displays, to control the emission of light from individual pixels.
  • It can be applied in televisions, smartphones, computer monitors, and other electronic devices that utilize displays.

Problems Solved

  • The pixel circuit addresses the problem of accurately controlling the emission of light from a light emitting element in a display.
  • It provides a solution for initializing the light emitting element and writing data to it, ensuring proper functioning of the display.

Benefits

  • The circuit allows for precise control of the luminance level of individual pixels, resulting in improved image quality and color accuracy.
  • It provides efficient and reliable initialization and data write operations for the light emitting element.
  • The fixed second off-duty ratio simplifies the circuit design and operation.

Original Abstract Submitted

A pixel circuit includes a light emitting element, a driving transistor, a first emission transistor applying a first power voltage to the driving transistor in response to a first emission signal, a second emission transistor applying the driving current to the light emitting element in response to a second emission signal, a first initialization transistor applying a first initialization voltage to an anode electrode of the light emitting element in response to the second emission signal, a data write transistor, a compensation transistor, a second initialization transistor, and a storage capacitor. A first off-duty ratio which is a ratio of a high voltage level period of the first emission signal in one frame is determined according to a set luminance level, and a second off-duty ratio which is a ratio of a high voltage level period of the second emission signal in the one frame is fixed.
