various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. in some aspects, a user equipment (ue) may receive a first communication from a first network node associated with a first cell. the ue may transmit, based at least in part on a measured interference within the first communication, an indication to reduce a number of layers of communication of one or more of the first network node or a second network node associated with a second cell. the ue may receive, from the first network node, a second communication based at least in part on the indication to reduce the number of layers. numerous other aspects are described.
