TRANSMITTER AND METHOD FOR GENERATING ADDITIONAL PARITY THEREOF - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18155645 titled 'TRANSMITTER AND METHOD FOR GENERATING ADDITIONAL PARITY THEREOF

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a transmitter that includes various components to encode and transmit data using Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) codes. The transmitter performs group-wise interleaving of parity bits, punctures some of the parity bits, and generates additional parity bits based on specific patterns.

  • The transmitter includes a Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) encoder to encode input bits and generate an LDPC codeword.
  • A parity permutator is used to perform group-wise interleaving of the parity bits based on a specific pattern.
  • Some of the parity bits are punctured, meaning they are intentionally removed from the codeword.
  • An additional parity generator selects certain punctured parity bits and generates additional parity bits to be transmitted in a previous frame.
  • The selection of punctured parity bits and generation of additional parity bits is based on specific patterns.

Potential Applications

  • This technology can be used in wireless communication systems, such as cellular networks, to improve the reliability and efficiency of data transmission.
  • It can also be applied in satellite communication systems to enhance the quality and robustness of data transmission.

Problems Solved

  • LDPC codes are known for their error correction capabilities, but they require efficient encoding and transmission techniques.
  • The transmitter described in the patent application solves the problem of efficiently encoding and transmitting LDPC codewords by performing group-wise interleaving, puncturing, and generating additional parity bits.

Benefits

  • The use of LDPC codes and the described transmitter can significantly improve the reliability and accuracy of data transmission.
  • By puncturing and generating additional parity bits, the transmitter can enhance the error correction capabilities of LDPC codes.
  • The group-wise interleaving pattern allows for efficient transmission and decoding of the LDPC codewords.

Original Abstract Submitted

A transmitter is provided. The transmitter includes: a Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) encoder configured to encode input bits to generate an LDPC codeword including the input bits and parity bits to be transmitted in a current frame; a parity permutator configured to perform by group-wise interleaving a plurality of bit groups configuring the parity bits based on a group-wise interleaving pattern comprising a first pattern and a second pattern; a puncturer configured to puncture some of the parity-permutated parity bits; and an additional parity generator configured to select at least some of the punctured parity bits to generate additional parity bits to be transmitted in a previous frame of the current frame, based on the first pattern and the second pattern.
