BATTERY AND ELECTRONIC DEVICE COMPRISING SAME - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18099725 titled 'BATTERY AND ELECTRONIC DEVICE COMPRISING SAME

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a battery design that includes a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and a separator.

  • The positive electrode has a substrate with a positive active material applied to one surface, and a positive electrode tab attached to that surface.
  • The negative electrode has a substrate with a negative active material applied to one surface, and a negative electrode tab attached to that surface.
  • The first surface of the negative electrode substrate has a region without the negative active material, facing the positive electrode tab.
  • The first surface of the negative electrode substrate also has a region with the negative active material, adjacent to the first region in the longitudinal direction of the positive electrode tab.
  • The negative electrode includes an insulating layer in at least a portion of the first region.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • This battery design can be used in various electronic devices, such as smartphones, laptops, and electric vehicles.
  • It can also be applied in renewable energy storage systems, like solar power or wind power storage.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • The design helps prevent short circuits between the positive and negative electrodes.
  • It reduces the risk of damage to the battery caused by contact between the positive electrode tab and the negative active material.

Benefits of this technology:

  • The insulating layer in the negative electrode helps improve the safety and reliability of the battery.
  • The design allows for efficient energy storage and discharge, enhancing the overall performance of the battery.
  • It can potentially extend the lifespan of the battery by minimizing the occurrence of short circuits and damage.

Original Abstract Submitted

A battery includes: a positive electrode including a positive electrode substrate having a first surface and a second surface, a positive active material applied to the first surface of the positive electrode substrate, and a positive electrode tab attached to the first surface of the positive electrode substrate; a negative electrode including a negative electrode substrate having a first surface and a second surface, a negative active material applied to the first surface of the negative electrode substrate, and a negative electrode tab attached to the first surface of the negative electrode substrate; and a separator provided between the positive electrode and the negative electrode, wherein the first surface of the negative electrode substrate includes a first region to which the negative active material is not applied and which faces the positive electrode tab, the first surface of the negative electrode substrate includes a second region to which the negative active material is applied and which is adjacent to the first region in a longitudinal direction of the positive electrode tab, and the negative electrode includes an insulating layer disposed in at least a portion of the first region.
