SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR CHARGING BATTERY OF VEHICLE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 17697218 titled 'SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR CHARGING BATTERY OF VEHICLE

Simplified Explanation

The present disclosure describes a charging system and method for charging a vehicle's main battery using a swappable battery and a DC-DC converter. This allows for increased driving distance and improved efficiency of the vehicle's motor and inverters.

  • The system allows the main battery of a vehicle to be charged using a swappable battery.
  • A DC-DC converter in the vehicle's on-board computer (OBC) is used to charge the main battery with the voltage from the swappable battery.
  • This eliminates the need for additional converters for multiple swappable batteries, simplifying the charging process.
  • By connecting the swappable batteries to the input terminals of the DC-DC converters, the main battery can be charged efficiently.
  • The use of this system increases the driving distance of the vehicle and improves the efficiency of the motor and inverters.

Potential Applications

  • Electric vehicles: This charging system can be applied to electric vehicles to increase their driving range and improve overall efficiency.
  • Swappable battery systems: The system can be used in vehicles that utilize swappable battery systems, allowing for easy and efficient battery swapping.

Problems Solved

  • Simplified charging process: The system eliminates the need for additional converters for multiple swappable batteries, making the charging process more straightforward.
  • Increased driving distance: By utilizing a swappable battery and the DC-DC converter, the system extends the driving range of the vehicle.
  • Improved efficiency: The system enhances the efficiency of the vehicle's motor and inverters, resulting in better overall performance.

Benefits

  • Extended driving range: The ability to charge the main battery with a swappable battery increases the vehicle's driving distance.
  • Simplified charging process: The system eliminates the need for additional converters, making the charging process more efficient and user-friendly.
  • Improved efficiency: By optimizing the use of the swappable battery and the DC-DC converter, the system enhances the efficiency of the vehicle's motor and inverters.

Original Abstract Submitted

The present disclosure relates to a charging system and a charging method for charging a main battery of a vehicle. The main battery can be charged with a voltage of a swappable battery using a DC-DC converter of an on-board computer (OBC) without installing additional converters for a plurality of swappable batteries through connection of the plurality of swappable batteries to input terminals of a plurality of DC-DC converters of the OBC charging the main battery, so that a driving distance of the vehicle is increased, and the efficiency of a motor and the inverters is increased.
