WASHING MACHINE AND METHOD OF CONTROLLING THE SAME - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18300270 titled 'WASHING MACHINE AND METHOD OF CONTROLLING THE SAME

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a washing machine and a method of controlling it. The washing machine includes a tub for holding water, a rotating tub inside the main tub, a ball balancer in the rotating tub, a washing motor for rotating the tub, a drain motor for removing water from the tub, and a controller for controlling the operations.

  • The washing machine has a tub to hold water and a rotating tub inside it.
  • A ball balancer is included in the rotating tub to balance the load during operation.
  • The washing motor is responsible for rotating the tub during the washing cycle.
  • The drain motor is used to remove water from the tub after completing a washing or rinsing cycle.
  • The controller is programmed to drive the drain motor after completing a cycle.
  • The washing motor is driven for a specific period of time when the water level in the tub reaches a certain threshold.
  • The washing motor and drain motor are stopped when the specified period of time elapses.

Potential Applications

  • This technology can be used in household washing machines for efficient and automated laundry cleaning.
  • It can also be applied in commercial laundry facilities to improve the washing process.

Problems Solved

  • The inclusion of a ball balancer helps in balancing the load during rotation, preventing excessive vibrations and potential damage to the machine.
  • The automated control system ensures proper drainage and washing cycles, reducing the need for manual intervention.

Benefits

  • The use of a ball balancer improves the stability and performance of the washing machine.
  • The automated control system simplifies the washing process and reduces the effort required from the user.
  • Efficient drainage and washing cycles result in better cleaning results and prolong the lifespan of the machine.

Original Abstract Submitted

Provided is a washing machine and a method of controlling the same, the washing machine including: a tub provided to accommodate water therein; a rotating tub rotatably installed inside the tub; a ball balancer provided in the rotating tub; a washing motor configured to rotate the rotating tub; a drain motor configured to drain water from the tub; and a controller configured to; based on completing a washing cycle or a rinsing cycle, drive the drain motor; based on a water level in the tub reaching a first water level threshold, drive the washing motor for a first period of time; and based on the first period of time elapsing, stop the washing motor and the drain motor.
